A few years ago, the Twin Cities Natural Food Co-ops decided to make a change in their bimonthly member education newsletter. The tabloid-sized publication, called Co-op Consumer News, was being designed from a strictly utilitarian aesthetic…great content, but you’d never know that by looking at it.
Triangle Park Creative worked with the co-ops’ editor and staff to rename the publication. We came up with the name Mix—an active, short, memorable moniker that represented the wide variety of topics it covered, and had a fun meaning in a food context as well.
The redesign included changing the way the front page was done—so that it was no longer a newspaper front page, but more like a magazine, using half of the tabloid page as a cover. At the same time, the publication shifted to four-color printing for its outside pages, opening up a new realm of possibilities.
