With over 130,000 African immigrants and refugees, the Twin Cities was feeling the impace of gaps in its local economic development system, which led to failed businesses and personal losses.

The African Development Center strives for a future where Africans own homes and businesses at rates comparable to Minnesota natives, reaping the benefits that come with economic stability.

Begun in 2002, ADC initiated an Islamic financing program for Muslim homeowners and in 2006 trained 187 potential homeowners, co-developed the Midtown Global Market in the former Sears building in Midtown Minneapolis, operates a Financial Literacy Center, and in 2006 trained 128 potential entrepreneurs.
